A 3-track CD single featuring “That Song”

“Change at
Thorpe-le-Soken” was written in the mid-eighties by Essex songwriter Colin
Cater. It won a competition on BBC Essex to find a “Song for Essex”. Colin
kindly has allowed us to use the song and it has been a permanent fixture in
our repertoire ever since.
It tells
of the joy felt by locals on returning home from the “Hell” that is London and
warns of creeping urbanisation. The relief felt by the traveller on returning
home offsets the less than flattering description of the reliability of the
train service.
The cover
shows the view from Frinton railway crossing looking down the line to
Walton-on-the-Naze. The two town names are the station nameplates as they
appeared in early 2007. The Walton sign is being changed on May 8th
to incorporate the missing “The”.
