Founded in 1974, Priory
Bowmen is one of the smaller archery clubs in Essex with around 50 members.
Nonetheless we are remarkably successful with an unusually high proportion of
our members achieving "Bowman" status. We also won the Essex Summer
League title 3 times in four years.
We are based near Clacton-on-Sea and are
fortunate to have a private shooting range to which we have access 7 days a
week. Although every day is considered to be a "Club Target Day",
Sunday mornings and Thursday evenings are when most members meet up. We shoot
outdoors all year round and from October to April we also shoot indoors on
Thursday evenings. We mainly shoot the Olympic or Recurve style of bow but there
are a few members who shoot compound bows and longbows. We concentrate on target
archery but we have a small (and very enthusiastic) band of field archers.
We
run beginners lessons once a year in the spring but we welcome applications to
join from experienced archers at any time.
